a kiss

Photo by Gift Habeshaw on Unsplash

we’ve been showered
through the decades
with paisley parks
and french parades

purple rains
and red corvettes
raspberry berets
and alphabets

falsetto to bass
to baritone chimes
debut to ‘99
to another ‘99

dig it, your revolution
still rocks the trunk
your evolutions
and electric eel-funk

transcend beyond
the lightning hills
graffiti bridges
and ether-villes

and we may be blue
and gently weep
when snowflakes fall
on april’s cheek

but under stars
and cherry moons
we celebrate you
this day in june

The Artist genius
the beautiful one
who made us crazy
in the plums

around the world
in a day of bliss
and for you
4ever Prince

through the indigo mist
we send up to you —

a kiss
